CSA POLICIES: THE MEMBER/FARMER AGREEMENT

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. At its core, CSA’s are a beautiful way to connect the farmer directly with their community. The difference from a farmers market is that in a CSA you pay in advance for a “share” of Makanai Farm’s harvest. You will receive the freshest of veggies throughout the season, but also join us, the farmers, in the risks that also come along with the unpredictable farm season. Your produce may have imperfections at times, due to circumstances out of our control and because we do not use any pesticides or herbicides.

We love CSA’s because we see food as one of the starting points of human relationship building. We want people who eat the food that we grow to feel like they are part of our community and in this way you literally will be. When you buy our CSA, we feel your love and trust in the project that we are trying to accomplish and hopefully those feelings will be reciprocated in the food that we grow. Being a part of this community means you get intentionally grown vegetables delivered to your neighborhood, weekly newsletters and musings, recipe ideas, and are always welcome out to the farm!

When you join our CSA, you're agreeing to these terms:

  • The season is 20 weeks of fresh, regeneratively-grown produce, starting in June and ending in October. We hope to have our first CSA delivery on June 12th, but this may vary depending on the weather.

  • The small share price is $40 per week, which equals $800 for the season. The large share is $50 per week, which come out to $950 for the season.

  • We plant over 50 types of vegetables each year for CSA members. Each week's Small CSA box will typically contain 6-7 items, enough to feed 1-3 people. Large CSA boxes will have 8-9 items per week, enough for a family of 4-5 , or some very serious veggie eaters.

  • When you sign up, you're agreeing to pay for your share and submit your payments on time. You can pay the full amount up front -- which helps the farm -- or pay a deposit at sign-up and then monthly installments. The payment options are check or credit card; if you pay with credit card, there will be an additional 3% fee added to your total. If a payment is missed, we will notify you to discuss, and not deliver any more boxes until the payment issue is resolved. If the price is a barrier to you signing up or making payments, please reach out to us so we can talk through subsidized options.

  • You have the ability to customize your box before we harvest it. On Friday afternoons, we'll email you a newsletter that specifies what will be in your box, and you'll be able to use an online store to swap items in or out. You'll have until Monday at noon to make changes. If you don't make any changes, then you'll receive the default box.

  • You also have the ability to purchase extra vegetables each week from our online store, depending on what's available from the farm.

  • You're responsible for picking up your share every week, or designating someone else to pick up your share for you. (In that case, please make sure they know the pickup location hours, and also know to only take the box labeled with your name.)

  • If you're going out of town or will be otherwise unable to pick up your share, please notify us no later than the Monday before the pick-up. We will hold your box that week, and you will get an additional delivery of vegetables at the end of the season for up to two weeks. If you want to take more that two weeks off, please find a friend to pick up the box. We do not offer refunds for additional boxes missed.

  • We will try to send reminders to grab your veggies, but if we have not received notification from you that you are coming late to pick up your box, the box is forfeited and the pick-up host will donate or share your box.

  • Cancellations: if you need to cancel your subscription, email us at lizzyandkojifarm@gmail.com. If you cancel your subscription after the first delivery, then we will issue a refund on a pro-rated basis.

  • Refunds: if you are dissatisfied with the CSA for any reason and would like to cancel, then we will issue a refund on a pro-rated basis.

  • Privacy policy: we respect and are committed to protecting your privacy. We may collect personally identifiable information when you visit our site.
